Michael has over 32 years of experience in project/program management and controls within both the government and private sectors. He has worked for several of the leading engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firms in the industry, to include URS Corporation, Jacobs Engineering, Kiewit, Parsons, and Hill International. From 2009 to 2015, Michael managed successful EVM consulting practices for SM&A, Project Time & Cost, and Management Solutions, LLC. He is currently Director of Project Controls with Strategic Management Solutions LLC (SMSI), functionally responsible for more than one hundred project control professionals supporting Department of Energy (DOE)/National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) sites and projects across the United States.
Michael has been an active member of AACE International since 1999, earning numerous professional certifications as well as serving as President of the Association from 2011 to 2012, and is currently the President of the Orange County (CA) Post of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME). Michael is also an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California, having taught graduate level courses in heavy construction estimating and scheduling.

Steve has over 30 years of experience in project management, change management and project controls within both government and private sectors. He manages Business Management and Project Management teams in Project Controls, Change and Contract Management, HR, IT, Document Control, Finance and Accounting. He has expert level knowledge of Primavera P6 and Deltek Cobra and several financial systems. He has established and managed several Project Control Systems following ANSI 748. He is a leader who manages large Project Controls groups in the implementation of all Project Controls disciplines including scheduling, earned value management, cost control, estimating and change control. He also provides Expert Witness for damages analysis, delay analysis and forensic accounting for litigation and disputes.
Steve is an active member of AACE International, having been a member for more than 21 years. Steve is certified as a Certified Cost Professional (CCP).
Description and Learning Objectives
This course provides an overview of skills and knowledge of cost engineering. The course will cover basic concepts of estimating, planning and scheduling, cost control and forecasting, breakeven analysis, and productivity analysis. Professionals who attend this Review Course will gain a better understanding of some of the basic concepts of cost engineering. This course is also suitable for those who plan to take the CCP Certification Exam as it will enable attendees to be better prepared to take the exam beyond what they would likely achieve on their own. Each day's presentation covers subjects that are tested on the certification examination.

If possible, attendees should read and workout some problems from the text to become relatively comfortable with the contents of these books. A review of college algebra, such as logarithms and exponents is recommended.
The books are not required for the course but are essential reference material for any cost engineer. You should bring a calculator with exponent and logarithm functions. A financial calculator is useful but not required.
This course will primarily address those areas where numerical problem solving is of important consideration. The expectation is that professionals who do not routinely solve such problems will find that review to be more worthwhile. These primary areas will include engineering economics, estimating, scheduling and related subjects.
