B1:  The What, Why, and How of Project Controls

To understand project progress, one must examine and understand all aspects of project controls. Not only must each aspect be analyzed, but also how they are related to and dependent on each other. This thorough and interactive project controls course teaches Planning, Cost Estimating, CPM Scheduling, Resource Management, Project Cost Control, and Implementation.

Beginning with an overview of project controls, then moving into developing a project plan and exploring how the plan forms the basis of the project estimate. The different cost estimates and their components are explored. Participants will then work through developing a schedule and analyzing several schedule updates followed by a thorough presentation of Resource Management. Participants will then explore project cost control by working through Baseline Budget development, tracking commitments, cost reporting, and earned value. A participatory workshop on crashing or stretching a schedule will be presented ending with a practical guide to implementing project controls.

WoodrichInstructor:  Anthony M. Woodrich, CCP
Mr. Woodrich is an Owner and Vice President of Administrative Controls Management, Inc. (ACM). He has over 28 years of experience in project management, planning, scheduling, estimating, training, and project controls applications. Tony received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the United States Air Force Academy and a MBA in Management from Bentley University. He has extensive experience in conducting project management and controls, as well as training, for government, construction, automotive, pharmaceutical, and utility clients. Tony has presented nationally at AACE International’s annual meeting, the American Power Conference, and the Automotive Industry Action Group. He is the Chair of AACE’s Utilities and Energy SIG and is on the Education Board for the Construction Association of Michigan (CAM).
