Dr. Mark HastakInstructor:  Dr. Makarand (Mark) Hastak, PE CCP
Dr. Hastak is the Professor and Head of the Division of Construction Engineering and Management as well as Professor of Civil Engineering at Purdue University. He has been involved with the construction industry for the past 30 years where he has conducted research, taught, and assisted industry in the area of construction engineering and management including disaster risk reduction, infrastructure management, cost control, decision-making, risk management, and strategic planning. Dr. Hastak is a Professional Engineer (PE) and a Certifed Cost Professional (CCP). He has authored over 180 publications and co-authored a widely used book on Infrastructure Planning, Engineering, and Economics through McGraw-Hill (2015, Second Edition). He has served on the AACE Education Board for over twelve years (2004-2016). He edited two books for AACE, the 6th edition of the Skills and Knowledge of Cost Engineering (2015) and the 2nd Edition of the CCP Certifcation Study Guide published in spring 2016.

Description and Learning Objectives
This course provides an overview of skills and knowledge of cost engineering. The course will cover basic concepts of estimating, planning and scheduling, cost control and forecasting, breakeven analysis, and productivity analysis. Professionals who attend this Review Course will gain a better understanding of some of the basic concepts of cost engineering. This course is also suitable for those who plan to take the CCP Certification Exam as it will enable attendees to be better prepared to take the exam beyond what they would likely achieve on their own. Each day's presentation covers subjects that are tested on the certification examination.

1. Skills and Knowledge of Cost Engineering, 6th Ed
2. CCP-Certification Study Guide, 2nd Ed

If possible, attendees should read and workout some problems from the text to become relatively comfortable with the contents of these books. A review of college algebra, such as logarithms and exponents is recommended.

The books are not required for the course but are essential reference material for any cost engineer. You should bring a calculator with exponent and logarithm functions. A financial calculator is useful but not required.

Knowledge Areas:
This course will primarily address those areas where numerical problem solving is of important consideration. The expectation is that professionals who do not routinely solve such problems will find that review to be more worthwhile. These primary areas will include engineering economics, estimating, scheduling and related subjects.
